All Natural Sunscreen

Sunscreen and the harmful effects of the sun are always hot topics as summer approaches. Trying to come up with the safest way to deal with this dilemma and when to go outside or not is a rising concern for parents. We have been told for many years to wear sunscreen if we go outside because it is damaging, it is aging our skin and causing skin cancer. This is all true and it is important to protect your skin while outside to prevent any sunburns. A child who gets a severe sunburn doubles their chances of skin cancer as an adult. That is a very scary fact. Also the accumulation of sun exposure over the years increases and makes skin cancer more prevalent. People do not take it seriously because there are no immediate consequences or effects to see. Once you do, it is too late to turn back and change things. The sunscreen we have been lathering ourselves in to protect us from the sun's damage has been clogging our pores and leaving tons of chemicals on your skin for hours on end to absorb. Now Doctors are saying we are not getting enough vitamin D which naturally comes from the sun. This does not mean to go out for hours soaking up the sun without sun protection. It is okay to go out once in awhile for short periods of time during non-peak times to get some well needed rich, pure vitamin D. What we do need to change is the type of sunscreen we are covering our bodies with so we are safely and naturally protecting ourselves from the harmful sun rays. The synthetic, chemical filled traditional sunscreens you purchase in stores are causing almost as much damage to our skin as the sun that it is protecting you from. Scientists are now realizing that we can wear organic and/or natural sunscreens that are just as effective. They are not harmful to you when applied and absorbed into your skin while effectively providing sun protection. Today there are several brands of safe, good quality natural and/or organic sunscreens on the market. These safer, pure sunscreens are also much gentler on your child’s skin and this is very important because they will be wearing many years of it. This is a double positive: safe sun play and safe skin care. Always check the expiry dates on sunscreens before purchasing because they weaken over time and are not as effective.

Our All Natural Badger Sunscreen was just voted #2 out of 469 suscreens tested by the Environmental Working Group on effectiveness and safe ingredients that make up the sunscreen. Check it out and the price is great too.

Enjoy the outdoors safely!

Have a fun and memorable summer.

  2. Hi thanks for that nice and informative post on the benefits of natural sun screens. Yes, excessive exposure to the sun could be harmful and should be minimized as much as possible. But what we didn’t know for many years is that the remedy to the problem - sun screens – were equally harmful with their harsh chemicals. We can now be thankful that organic products are finally available.

    Nice post!
