Natural Spring Cleaning
Tis the season. Everyone is getting the itch to cleanse their home, free up some clutter and organize before the really nice weather gets here and they have a ton of stuff to do outside the home. Spring cleaning should include your home and your body. Spring is time to detox and renew; a fresh new start. Come alive and find your lost energy.
1) Reduce, reuse and recycle items.
2) Donate unwanted things so other people can benfit from them, your are doing a good deed and they don't end up in a land fill quite yet.
3) Free up clutter and things you do not use. Plastics, vinyls, rubber, paint, stuffed animals,etc..
4) Clean with all natural gentle cleaners that will not intoxicate the air in your home and cause breathing issues or allergies. You can also use an all natural cloth with the few simple cleaners you use. Less is better when it comes to cleaners.
5) Say good bye to all the dust bunnies lingering in your home in corners and behind things. Then open up your windows to circulate and let new fresh air in.
6) This is a great time to switch to all natural laundry soap and /or soap to gently and effectively clean all your clothes. Dispose of all fabric softener, as it is highly toxic and not needed with the natural laundry soaps. Natural soaps will not cause skin irritations, allergies or harm our waterways.
7) Touch up or freshen up a room with low or no VOC non-toxic paint. They come in many colours now are becoming easier to find.
8) Wash pets, their bedding and toys with all natural soaps also and rid your home of their dander.
9) Ask the children to donate some of their toys so they have more room to play and be imagintive. Choose ones that are plastic, coated in lots of paint and/or bought a Dollar Store or local big box store as they probably are not safe. This will also teach the chid(ren) that giving and sharing is a kind thing to do and they will feel good about themselves.
10) Hang clothes out to dry is a great way to benefit the environment. This will lower your hydro bill, make your clothes last longer and is earth friendly.
11) Wash the dust off all of your house plants. This is so they can breathe better and keep the environment cleaner. In return for being clean they will oxygenate the air you breathe and absorb many of the toxins in your home instead of you getting them.
12) Change to summer meals. Buy local fresh produce and try to eat as much organic food as possible. Variety is also the name of the game.
13) Switch all of your skin care products to certified organic and/or natural as your skin is very absorbant and soaks up the many chemicals in traditional store bought products. Organic/natural skin care products are safe, gentle, chemical free and will not irratate eczema, rashes or any other skin conditions. They work wonderful and smell great.
14) Don't forget about your own body. Cleanse your body too- detox (clean the inside of your body as you do the outside). Go to your local health food store and ask for a good cleansing system and the right foods and drinks to consume to accomplish this. You will feel amazing and maybe loose a few pounds as well.
Being a good role model will help our children learn to live a safer, healthier and more water and earth friendly lifestyle.
A clean home does not have to mean a toxic home.
A naturally clean home is a healthy home and great safe haven for your and your family.
